Completed and ongoing phases:
First three phases, which started in March of 2008, are about to be completed. During this period, EBX's work team has promoted articulations with CEDAE, SERLA, RIO ÁGUAS, SMAC, COMLURB, SEA and FEEMA, addressing the items required to improve Lagoon's environmental quality.
The result can be expressed by the structuring measures to be implemented. They stand for a management impact on the structure of Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Below are some examples:
- Collection of solid residues and algae / new collection and support vessels / construction of an operations support center along with Comlurb. On July 21 of 2008, a Technical Cooperation Agreement was celebrated with Comlurb;

- Dredging of Piraquê's Canal, among other areas to be defined in advance / construction and installation of a floodgate in Jockey's Canal, along with Rio Águas. An agreement draft has been delivered to Rio Águas;
- Installation of settling lines, refurbishment of lift pumps, solid retention boxes and depollution of rivers, along with Cedae. To accomplish these items, a technical cooperation agreement will be celebrated with CEDAE;
- Complementary monitoring of water quality in rain passageways, as well as Macacos and Cabeça rivers. Under discussion with FEEMA and (Municipal Environment Secretariat);
PHASES 4, 5 and 6 have already been started and will comprise a significant part the project's execution schedule, considering they involve construction works that will require more time for completion.
The implementation of structuring actions began on September 18, as of residue management started (litter and macroalgae collection). To complete this phase, four actions are necessary: Spot dredging, such as in Piraquê and Jardim de Alah canals, installation of a floodgate in Jockey's Canal, refurbishment and improvements in CEDAE's system, water quality monitoring completion.
Phase 5 - Appraisal and approval of technical solutions to revert current eutrophization conditions - in progress. Today, technical and environmental feasibility of an underground duct system (siphon), based on a hydrodynamic model, is under study. Next steps involve the elaboration of a base engineering project that includes physical and financial schedule, and proceeding with environmental licensing with administrative agencies.
